LG LCD Televisions – Introduction

LG has an extensive range of LCD TVs with a variety of screen sizes and all the LCD TVs with a screen size of 26 inches or more use LG’s XD Engine, a special digital image generating chip that helps give LG’s LCD televisions very realistic high definition images.

LG’s latest chip improves the clarity, colour, contrast, brightness and gradation on their LCD televisions in the following ways:

• Clarity – the XD Engine eliminates noise from the picture, increases the emphasis on edges and shapes and can also convert low resolution images to high resolution images which is an important factor if you want to buy larger sized television screens
• Colour – produces the most natural skin tones and colours of any picture from a scene
• Contrast and Brightness – the LG chip analyses the quality of the TV and video input signal and optimises the contrast and brightness
• Gradation – effectively this increases the number of possible colours available by increasing the processing from 8 bit to 10 bit, which is from 16 million colours to over 1 billion colours, giving you a more detailed LCD TV picture
• Real Cinema processing which means that as cinema films have a different playback system to TV programmes, the XD Engine can detect when a film is being played and ensures that the picture is played to the original quality giving you film quality images on your LCD TV.
